one planet action plan

Climate change is the biggest single challenge facing our planet. A sustainable future is not just an aspiration - it is a goal we MUST achieve. But how?

Hub Ottawa and international sustainability experts BioRegional invite you to join us in a unique workshop to create a One Planet Action Plan at the Hub. This kick-off collaboration in the ECOBOOTCAMP workshop series will launch Hub members on a journey to make our shared workspace a living laboratory for deep sustainability.

More importantly, it will help us use the Hub to prototype the life-changes we need to bring back home to our households and neighborhoods. Together we will learn to live 21st century lifestyles that aren't just a little less bad, but actually rise to meet the challenges of climate change and resource depletion.

Your facilitator, Greg Searle@gregorysearle, is Executive Director of BioRegional North America and is experienced leading sustainability workshops across North America and lecturing around the world.

What is a One Planet Action Plan?

The One Planet Action Planning process has been used to plan some of the greenest neighborhods in the world, from BedZED (UK) to Barangaroo (Australia). It has been used by huge companies like B&Q, and by municipalities.  BioRegional is working in partnership with forward- thinking organisations around the world to demonstrate that sustainability is attractive, affordable and achievable. Using the One Planet Living framework these pioneering real life projects are making a sustainable future a reality today.

In our workshop we will deeply explore 10 principles of sustainability to help plan a sustainable workspace at Hub Ottawa. The resulting Action Plan will:

• Tap into the local wisdom and innovation potential of Hub Members

• Identify achievable strategies and targets for a sustainable office

• Lay out milestones from this early stage of fit-out through long-term operations

• Begin a life-changing conversation about personal transformation, sustainability, and the shared economy in Ottawa

The 10 One Planet Principles

About the ECOBOOTCAMP Empowerment Workshop Series: bringing it home

Globally we’re consuming resources and polluting the planet at a level forty per cent higher than the earth can renew or absorb. Ecological footprinting shows that if everyone in the world consumed as many natural resources as the average person in Canada, we’d need four planets to support us.

ecoBootcamp is an Empowerment Workshop Series hosted by sustainability coaching experts BioRegional at Hub Ottawa. These workshops are designed to green up our workspace at the Hub while simultaneously helping Hub Members and concerned citizens learn how to live healthier, one planet lifestyles and to share the benefits with their family, friends, and neighborhood.

A city with a sustainable footprint?

It is our hope that this unique planning process, and the sustainability roadmap it creates, will help to catalyze a bigger vision and a long-term community process: making a sustainable future a reality for all of Ottawa.
